Let's discuss an example using the LexisNexis (newsarticles) text format! You go to academic.lexisnexis.nl to select the news articles of interest. You select the desired 'Date' and 'News sources' and fill in your search term. LexisNexis presents you with the selection of requested articles. You save the articles by clicking on the disk logo in the upper right corner. A new window pops up with the 'Download Document' options. Make sure to select the 'Text' in the 'Format' box, as you should save the articles in LexisNexis as a txt.file. In addition, you check 'Cover Page' at the 'Page Options'. Click on the 'Download' button and save the file under a chosen name on your computer. To upload the newly saved document(s) with your selection of news articles into AmCAT, you select the 'LexisNexis' format in the 'Opload Articles' page, click 'Bestand kiezen' and browse to the LexisNexis file(s) on your computer. You can also download the articles from LexisNexis as a Zip-file, which is a great option if you need to download a lot of articles from LexisNexis (you can only save 200 articles per saving from LexisNexis).

If you select an AmCAT project you are directed to the project page. This is the place where your project article sets are stored. You can choose to list either your 'Active Sets', your 'Archived Sets' or 'Coding Job Sets' by clicking on these tabs (see Figure 5.1). AmCAT displays your archived sets by default, listing all the AmCAT project article sets you have archived. This list is empty for a new user, but you can easily upload a new project article set.

Figure 5.1 AmCAT Navigator Article Sets Overview

To create a new AmCAT project article set you go to the AmCAT home page and click on the 'Manage Projects' button. Select the AmCAT project for which you want to upload a new article set by clicking on the project name. In the upper left corner you find the button 'Upload articles'. Clicking on this button directs you to new page with a list with several options for different formats of texts that can be uploaded (see Figure 5.2). Use the table below to decide which text format applies to your AmCAT article set. You can select the format that applies to your AmCAT project by clicking on the format name.

Uploading your own texts

As was explained in the table above, you can also upload your own articles (i.e. texts) and use them as any other AmCAT article set. After selecting the format option 'Plain Text', you are directed to a form where you can upload your own articles using text (see Figure 5.3). If you have already created an article set, it will be listed in the scroll down field right to 'Articlesets'. You can select the article set in which you want to save your new own article. However, if you are creating a new article set you don't select an article set in this field. Rather, you enter the name of your new article set in the field right to 'Articleset name'. Similarly, you enter the medium, headline, date and text of your own article in the associated fields. When the information you want to include is complete, you click on the 'Upload' button. You will be directed to a page where your own article is being uploaded. After your article has been uploaded successfully you can take a look at the new set you have created by clicking on the 'View Set' button. Repeat this process for all of your own articles you want to add to the new article set. You can get to your new article set, including your own articles, by selecting the relevant AmCAT project in the project manager. Here, you select the article set you have created and you will find the list with the articles you have entered into the article set.

Uploading one of the other text formats

If you select one of the other text formats (e.g., LexisNexis or CSV), the upload procedure is slightly different. Select the format that applies to your AmCAT article set, click on the button 'Bestand kiezen' and browse to the relevant file on your computer. If you have created article sets in AmCAT before, these will be listed in the scroll down field right to 'Articlesets'. After your article has been uploaded successfully you can take a look at the new set by clicking on 'View Set'. You can get to your new article set by selecting the relevant AmCAT project in the project manager. Here, you select the article set you have created and you will find the list with the articles included in the article set.
