Highlighters are extremely useful when you or your coders have to code long texts about specific actors or issues. A highlighter makes the process of finding these actors or issues in the text a bit easier by highlighting relevant words in the text as it appears in the annotator.

You create a highlighter in the same way as a codebook. Yes, even though its function is different, a highlighter is nothing else than a set of labels attached to a codebook.

When this codebook is used in a codingschema, the names of the parties included in the codebook are highlighted in the annotator for all coding jobs with that schema, as shown here.

To use a highlighter, select it from the ‘Highlighter’ list when creating a new codingschema. Also, make sure to select the right highlight language, that is, the language used for the code labels in the highlighter codebook (for this example, ‘nl’).
